Why I Built NOHM

After years in the home-service industry, I kept seeing the same problems. Homeowners didn’t always know who to trust. Contractors spent too much chasing leads. And after the work was done, a home’s service history was scattered or lost.

We know more about the history of a used car than we do about most homes.

So I built NOHM.

NOHM — pronounced “Nohm,” rhymes with “home” — is a play on home and the gnome: the familiar little guardian of the home. It represents what NOHM is meant to be — a trusted presence helping you organize, understand, and take care of your home.

That idea also became NOHMie, our private home assistant.

NOHMie isn’t watching you. We built its home-service knowledge base specifically for NOHM so it can help you understand your home, manage repairs, and get things done without requiring you to expose your home’s questions and information across the open internet.
